Seeing the ongoing strength of Portland's Old Port and, on a smaller scale, downtown areas like Belfast and Rockland, it is discouraging to see how Bangor shot itself in the foot with this redevelopment (which also included building the Bangor Mall and rerouting business away from downtown).

Thank you for conducting the walk and writing it up for us. My grandmother used to tell me about Exchange Street as it was before and I remember seeing Pinocchio at the Bijou.

Much was lost, but we can rebuild our vision for what is possible: rebuilding all our cities for people first, not cars.

A degree of racism in Bangor's Urban Renewal Program? No doubt there were some urban renewal needs in Bangor, but some might have been ill-advised, but it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, I guess.
