Chicks: In the "bad old days" stores sold colored chicks at Easter time. My Dad brought some home, we raised them in the garage: a couple of roosters bonded with me and then? We brought them to a farm; I wanted that to be my farm. I now have a farm, we literally raised thousands of free range chickens, turkeys, and ducks and I loved it. I miss them even now!

But I had another love, a memory that will last a lifetime: I brought a baby grey squirrel that I found after the mother's demise by a car. I carried him home in a fire hat we got for fire prevention week at school. That baby grew up in a round canary cage with a vertical pole installed for climbing. Once it got bigger (springtime) we would let it outside. It loved to run up my father's pant leg; I asked a friend if we could let it go in his wooded yard and we did. I'm sure his life was good, he never bit or scratched and when we let him go he just hung out until he climbed a tree and we left for home. I believe my brother thought I loved that squirrel more than him---he was wrong but he was nearly tied for a while.

At 74, I only have a cat now and I miss my dogs and other such pets and farm animals.
